The Original Prop

For the climactic Fort Knox sequence in Goldfinger (1964), a small number of individual “hero” gold bars were produced, based on production drawings by Ken Adam. These hero props were cast in resin and finished to resemble solid gold. One of them appears on screen when Bond uses it as an improvised hammer to break open the nuclear device casing.

The large stacks of bullion seen throughout the Fort Knox set were a piece of effective cinematic illusion. Although they appear to be composed of individual bars, they were actually molded fascia panels attached to internal frames. These panel bars featured engraved serial numbers, while the hero props themselves did not.

After filming concluded, all the molded panels were destroyed. Only a handful of hero props were retained, including one that was later autographed by Sean Connery and gifted to a member of the crew.

The Replica

This replica has been created using the only surviving original hero prop held in the EON archives. It incorporates the engraved serial numbers seen on the stacked bars, combining details from both the hero props and the panel bars as they appeared on screen.

Each piece is cast in a heavyweight resin, featuring a foundry-style surface texture and a gold finish. The final appearance is intended to reflect the varied look of the prop bars as seen in the film, rather than a single, idealized version.

The replica is presented in a gift box with magnetic closure and includes an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity booklet.
