As communications officer aboard the USS Enterprise, Nyota Uhura was Starfleet’s expert in languages, signals, and cryptography. Portrayed with stye and sophistication by Nichelle Nichols in Star Trek: The Original Series and six feature films, Uhura became one of the franchise’s most beloved characters, and her distinctive earpiece remains an instantly recognizable part of her iconic uniform.

The Original Prop

Used by communications officers, science specialists, and navigators throughout Starfleet, the earpiece was designed as a compact wireless receiver. The original screen-used props were machined from aluminum and fitted with a modified hearing-aid earpiece, creating a lightweight device that could be comfortably worn during filming.

The Replica
